Wow! ALH staff and students really stepped up to the plate this year to support the Terry Fox Run!  The weeks leading up to the big day were filled with generous donations from all.  The school set a goal of $700, and we completely destroyed that goal, raising $4001.68!

What made the event even more special was the support we got from the RCMP, Fire Services, and Blue Sky Dodge dealership.  Our students were thrilled to have an escort as we walked around the community.

Thank you for all the support in our Terry Fox Run!  It's truly appreciated.

To encourage students to bring in those donations, Mr. Probert, Mr. Howell, and Mrs. Dyer had students colour their hair red when we doubled our goal.  Way to show school spirit A.L. Horton!

Welcome to A. L. Horton

At A.L. Horton Elementary School, everyone works together to provide students entrusted to our care with a safe, nurturing, positive environment - where each child is encouraged to work to achieve his/her personal best. By offering our students a variety of programs, we strive to educate "the whole child" so that each can realize his/her potential intellectually, physically, socially, psychologically, and spiritually.

Principal's Message

Welcome to A. L. Horton School!

On behalf of all the staff at A. L. Horton Elementary, I would like to welcome all of our school families to tthe 2011-2012 school year! We hope that you and your family will enjoy your educational experience here!

Our staff work diligently to provide high quality programs for all of our students. With the support of the A.L. Horton School Council and Friends of A. L. Horton School Society, we have completed a kitchen renovation project and added a new sound system to our gym. Our future plans include the enhancement of our fine arts and physical education programs.

Extracurricular activities are a very important aspect of school life at A. L. Horton. Our Energy Club led by our Gr. 6 students organize school spirit activities every month. Our intramural program provides lunch hour sports activities for students from Gr. 4-6 from October to March. We have instrumental band and handchime programs for students in Gr. 4-6. All of our Music programs are free. We have Journal games running teams which practice and compete during the months of February and March. Our football teams play during the months of May and June. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Geography Challenge, Speaking in Class, and the Wendy Brook Music Festival. Our Ukrainian bilingual program provides students not only with the opportunity to learn about a second language but also to gain a greater understanding of their culture and heritage. This year, we have added AMA School Patrols. This group of volunteer students work conscientiously to help children cross safely at the crosswalks.

As always, please drop by the office or give us a call if you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions. We look forward to your support for a successful school year.
