Regular Program

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten program is focused on early learning, language, and social skills development. Programming is designed around a variety of themes relating to children's interests with set curriculum requirements integrated into each theme. The program incorporates a balance between play and structured activities. Daily activities include circle time, crafts for creativity and fine motor skills, early literacy, early numeracy, Social Studies, Science activities, workstations and play centres, Music, recess, daily Physical Education, library, technology time, and cooperative play. Kindergarten participates and is involved in school assemblies, school concert performances and spirit days throughout the year.

Regular Program

A. L. Horton Elementary offers a solid academic English program from Kindergarten to Grade Six. 

We offer:

  • French as a Second Language (FSL) to Grade 4-6 students
  • Regular classroom Music K-6
  • Physical Education in single class and two-class groupings for small and large group games and activities
  • Bookroom "shopping" for levelled and series book for English Language Arts and the reading workshop
  • Library book sign out and Book Fairs to supplement student reading choices and interests
  • Technology integration into all subjects and gamification of learning tasks
  • Buddy reading and Math games with cross-grade groupings for leadership and social skills
  • Number Talks for critical thinking and a growth mindset in Math
