SCHOOL FEES SURVEY, PROGRESS CONFERENCES, & MORE!

SCHOOL FEES SURVEY, PROGRESS CONFERENCES, & MORE!

Please set aside five minutes for the 2023-2024 school fees survey. Share your thoughts about field trips, extracurricular activities, and supervision costs. The survey has been emailed to all families and closes on February 23.

REGISTRATION STARTS FEBRUARY 1!

Visit the Parent Portal to complete new and returning student registration this month. Call the school office at 780-632-3113 if you need assistance with registration.

  • For students in Kindergarten through Grade 6, the Ukrainian Language & Culture (ULC) program is an alternative program option.
    • In 2022-2023, Ukrainian program registration was open to all students in Kindergarten to Grade 6, regardless of experience with the language.
    • Going forward, students new to the program will experience the greatest success if starting their Ukrainian language and culture journey in Kindergarten, Grade 1, or Grade 2. Each year builds on foundations of the alphabet, vocabulary, and cultural events.
    • Ukrainian Language & Culture classes are 32 minutes per day. Students who are not in the language program study French as a Second Language (Grades 4-6) or continue their English Language Arts & Literature studies (K-3).
    • With current enrollment numbers, there are four groupings for ULC classes:
      • Kindergarten - A or B class
      • Grade 1/2 combined class
      • Grade 3/4 combined class
      • Grade 5/6 combined class
    • Ukrainian Language & Culture (ULC) students are in regular homeroom classes and come together for ULC class time and events.
    • Parents can select the Ukrainian program option online while completing the new and returning student registration form for Kindergarten through Grade 6.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Is your child turning five on or before Dec. 31, 2023? If so, it’s now time to register for kindergarten. To register, simply complete the online registration form at eips.ca/kindergarten.

To help families prepare, Elk Island Public Schools has put together an online EIPS Kindergarten Tool kit to make the transition as smooth as possible. The kit includes information on registration, important dates, programming options, what to expect, eligibility, how to find your designated school, transportation and more.

SCHOOL EVENTS & STAFFING UPDATES

It was great to see many parents and caregivers join us for Lunch with Your Child day on January 27. Check out Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for photos from the day and from mental health week. We know that taking time away from work is difficult and were grateful for parents who let us know that some children had permission to “picnic” with other families. Our next family lunch day is in late May. Hope you can join us for a picnic outdoors that day!

Congratulations to Ms. Giebelhaus who is taking on the Acting Assistant Principal position at our school while Assistant Principal Rita Lal moves over to the Vegreville Composite High School school administration team this spring. Mrs. Lal is helping our junior and senior high school address community needs and will be at both schools for the February transition and then at the junior/senior high school from March until June. All the best to Mrs. Lal this spring with her new team down the road. She returns to our school for the fall!

Welcome to Miss Graham who will be teaching in a variety of classrooms at our school this winter/spring. Miss Graham is also joining our Mental Health & Wellness Team as the RESET Room lead teacher.
