Field Fun Day, Spring Safety, & EIPS Annual Report
Many special events and field trips are happening at this time of year. Thank you to parents and caregivers for the support and volunteerism!
- The Spring Vesna Ukrainian Concert took place on May 3 in the evening. The group performances, solos, duets, and trios entertained families and community members. Dyakuyu to Mrs. Miller as lead planner of the event as well as Pan Maskal, Panni Fedorouk, & Panni Bombak for their work preparing students to sing, dance, and recite poetry about spring, love, food, travel, and the determination of the people of Ukraine.
- Congratulations to Miss Billingsley who was nominated by Elk Island Public Schools for the Edwin-Parr first year teaching award.
- Many thanks to the Education & Mental Health Week committees - Miss Leclair, Mrs. Semeniuk, Mrs. Kozak, Ms. Giebelhaus, Miss Konieczny - for an “uplifting” week of door decorating, career day laughs, guest readers, and mental health tips. Gratitude to Trustee Footz, Mrs. Busenius, and retired librarian Mrs. Menzak for uplifting students with stories in classrooms.
FIELD FUN DAY - JUNE 8
Save the date for this year’s outdoor sports and activities event on June 8. The committee is hard at work planning a variety of active tasks to challenge students of all levels. Parents and caregivers are invited to join their child(ren)’s class(es) and assist with events around the field area.
The Friends of A.L. Horton Fundraising Society is hosting a snacks/treats concession at this year’s Field Fun Day and needs your help.
- Fundraising Event - Field Fun Day Concession
- Needed: 2-3 committee members to help plan and organize the concession
- Tasks: assist with food planning and pickup, recruiting and organizing of volunteers to work at the concession
- Additional volunteers: 6-10 parents/caregivers to help set up, serve foods, handle monies, and clean up between 9 AM - 3 PM
- The more the merrier to celebrate the year end with the kids!

BIKES & SCOOTERS IN THE SPRING
A reminder to everyone that bicycles and scooters must be walked through the school grounds before and after school. The sidewalk alongside the buses is a busy traffic area with students embarking and disembarking and the front grassy area of the school is also host to many adults and young children. We want to keep everyone safe.
AFTER SCHOOL - STUDENT CHECK IN WITH PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
Students have been reminded to exit school grounds at the end of each school day and to check in with adults at home prior to returning to school to play. Discuss with your child ways to play kindly and how to problem solve with other children at local parks and recreation sites this spring and summer.

SUMMER OUT OF SCHOOL CARE - ON SITE AT A.L. HORTON
Families needing daytime care for children between 7:15 AM and 5:15 PM can register for summer out of school care. The Out of School Care program will run July 3 to August 18. This program runs independently from school operations, is not funded by Alberta Education, and is a non-profit program. Please call 780-603-7101 to reserve a spot for the summer. Priority will be given to working parents and caregivers.
