The ALH Wayfinder - October 25, 2021

October has been jam-packed with learning activities and various awareness events, including Read-In Week, World Mental Health day, Bus Safety Week, and now we lead up to Halloween festivities on Friday.

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING

Tonight is the School Council & Fundraising Society meeting. All parents/caregivers are welcome to attend. Many volunteers are needed to help with fundraising to replace the first of our three playgrounds. Join us with this link to our Google Meet:  https://meet.google.com/shi-ykot-xih

Remember that you need to be signed into a Gmail account for the meeting to let you join. We hope to see you at 6:30 PM.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS

The evenings of October 26 and 27 are Parent-Teacher Interviews. Sign up at this direct link to speak with your child(ren)’s teachers: https://www.schoolinterviews.ca/code/5gz7n

You’ll hear celebrations, next steps, and can discuss how to make the last four weeks of Term One the most successful for your child.

HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES

On the afternoon of October 29, students can share their creative costumes during a short parade through classes, beginning with Kindergarten. We will prepare a video to share with families. We remind students not to bring costume ‘weapons’ to school and to practice wearing their non-medical mask under a costume mask.

CROSSWALK, STREET, & BUS SAFETY

Students in Grades 5 & 6 begin safety patrolling crosswalks at the school this week. Please watch for their signals and take extra care before and after school.

We also ask all parents to model using one of the five crosswalks at the school when picking up and dropping off children. Our youngest students have noticed adults walking in the bus ‘danger zone’ (between the buses where we have pylons) and running across the main street. As a result, we have had several near misses out front of the school with children, adults, and vehicles. The sun is low, drivers may be sleepy, and children are watching. Please use the crosswalk.

FALL BREAK REMINDER - TRAVEL FOR STUDENTS/FAMILIES

Unvaccinated students under 12 years of age travelling with fully vaccinated parents or guardians cannot return to school or daycare for 14 days following their return to Canada, and must follow the mandatory requirements under the Minimizing the Risk of Exposure to COVID-19 in Canada Order.

Fully vaccinated students 12 years and older who travelled out of the country can return to school without delay so long as they are asymptomatic. If unvaccinated, these students are subject to the Government of Canada’s required 14-day quarantine, whether or not they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who qualifies as a fully vaccinated traveller.

HOT DOG WEDNESDAYS - INFO & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

If you are available to help package hot dogs and buns into foil and assist with kitchen and classroom bin cleanup between 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM, please email Mrs. Connie Bay at General.ALH@eips.ca .

As you are aware, proof of vaccination is required for volunteers, and masking is mandatory. Proof of vaccination can be emailed to Principal.ALH@eips.ca. A negative COVID test within the last 72 hours is also acceptable. Please check out EIPS Operations Guidelines (page 19) for more information.
