Buddy Classes, Breakfast Club, and October hot lunch fundraisers

Our Staff on the First Day of School

GREETINGS FROM OUR STAFF

Our first week back at school has gone well! After a windy start on August 31, students are practicing routines and connecting with classmates, teachers, and other children out on the playground.

Our buddy classes begin sometime this month, with grade 1 paired with grade 4, grade 2 with 5, and grade 3 with 6. We appreciate our older students taking on leadership roles as reading and math buddies. Kindergarten has buddies, too, and that will get rolling later this month.

Same grade classes will combine for library, computer literacy, and gym during the week, ensuring students are well connected with peers and with a variety of adults in the school.

Ukrainian language and culture classes in grades 3-6 started this week and the grade 1-2 class begins September 11. Kindergarten Ukrainian class begins closer to the end of September after our young students are more familiar with the school and its routines.

If you have questions about your child’s learning, friendships, social interactions, and more, please contact your child’s teacher via email or call the school office and leave a message. We are dedicated to collaborating with you for your child’s success and safety at school.

Our play area time is on a two-day schedule again this year. This avoids overcrowding on the play structures and long waits for the swings, which can be frustrating for young students. Children are learning different games to play together on their “field” days and are quite creative. Kindergarten students are on the playground every day, while grades 1 & 2 take turns as do grades 3 & 4 and grades 5 & 6.

Our playground structures have undergone new metal testing and are aging out. At our September 25 School Council and fundraising society meetings we’ll be discussing ways to continue our efforts to replace various play structures in the next 2-3 years. We need your creativity! Please join us and continue the amazing efforts of other parents and caregivers over the past two years. Approximately $60 000 has been raised so far on our way to the first $125 000 goal.

Our office team is here to help, so please give the school office a call at 780-632-3113 to speak to us about fees (Mrs. Bay), Parent Portal (Mrs. Golka), school operations and programming (Mrs. Busenius & Ms. Rice), attendance, and more.

HOT LUNCH AND BREAKFAST CLUB PROGRAMS - coming in October

The Breakfast Club snack program begins in October. Thank you for returning permission forms so your child can participate in this free healthy morning snack delivered to classrooms by 10 AM.

In the latter part of the 2022-2023 school year, a lunch program grant to CALS from the Alberta Government made four days of hot lunch for our students a possibility. That grant program has now ended.

Our school-run hot lunch fundraising program begins in October. Wednesdays will be Hot Dog Days.

  • Students can preorder a regular or halal hot dog for a fee.

Two Fridays per month will feature lunches from local restaurants.

  • These hot lunch options can be purchased online or paid for at the school office.

More information about Hot Dog Wednesdays and Friday Hot Lunch Days is coming home soon!

If you can volunteer to cook, wrap, and deliver hot dogs on Wednesdays, please call Mrs. Bay in the school office at 780-632-3113.
